Cromwell Painting Sold

On June 16, Christie's auctioned BJU Museum and Gallery's portrait of Oliver Cromwell (also known as "Lord Protector of England") at its British Pictures sale in London. In 1820, English artist James Northcote referred to the painting as "the best portrait I have ever seen of that extraordinary man." It was estimated between $72,000 - $109,000. It sold for $70,323.64.

Comments:
Thanks for the results; not too bad, since this work probably wouldn't have generated a huge bidding war anyway.

This (i.e., your blog) is the only place where I saw the Cromwell painting sale mentioned (and there are quite a few BJ bloggers out there). Just out of curiousity, how did you stumble (or maybe not stumble) across this sale to begin with?
